Acknowledging the move by automobile manufactures to producing more electric vehicles, the City seeks to assist local commercial auto sellers compete and continue to thrive in the changing environment. The City also acknowledges the positive impact on having publicly available EV chargers to attracting visitors and travelers to the community. To accomplish these goals the City, in partnership with Kansas Power Pool, will provide following to any commercial automobile seller served by the City of Hillsboro electric system:
• The Kansas Power Pool will reimbursement up to $1,500 for the purchase of Level 2 electric vehicle chargers through its Energy Efficiency Program.
• Should the cost of Level 2 electric vehicle charger exceed the $1,500 rebate provided by KPP, the City of Hillsboro will provide additional reimbursement up to $1,500, for the actual cost of the purchase of a Level 2 electric charger.
• The City of Hillsboro will provide an individual meter for each Level 2 electric charger.
• The City will provide a reduced consumption charge rate equal to 150% of the system average cost of energy in $/kWh for the metered Level 2 charger for the first 3 years of service. The owner would still be responsible for any base meter charge and any applicable surcharges and taxes. An approved Memorandum of Understanding must be approved for the reduced rate.
To receive additional reimbursement from the City, chargers installed by commercial auto sellers must be open for the public to use. Sellers may opt to put reasonable limits on the public's use of chargers to avoid any abuse.
