The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) - Public Law 101-336 was enacted on July 26, 1990. The ADA is codified as 42 U.S.C. 12101-12213. This landmark legislation provides comprehensive civil rights protection to individuals with disabilities in the area of employment, public accommodations, state and local government services and programs, and telecommunications. The ADA prohibits all state and local governments and some private businesses from discriminating on the basis of disability.
The City of Hillsboro does not discriminate on the basis of disability in the admission or access to, or treatment or employment in, its programs or activities. The city superintendent has been designated to coordinate compliance with the nondiscrimination requirements contained in Section 35.107 of the Department of Justice regulations. Information concerning the provisions of the American with Disabilities Act, and the rights provided thereunder, are available from the ADA coordinator.
All organizations operating from City owned facilities or receiving money or in-kind services from the City shall be required to comply with Title II of the ADA regulating nondiscrimination on the basis of disability in state and local government services.
