The following policy shall govern the use of cell phones by the employees and that an allowance is paid employees for city use of personal cell phones.
1. As of March 2010, cell phones provided by the city for employees will be moved to their personal cell account to provide for communicating on city business. The City Administrator shall determine if an employee is eligible for reimbursement under this policy.
2. The City of Hillsboro will provide an allowance for cell phone expenses for various city personnel. It shall be $20.00 per month. Should a data plan be necessary, the allowance shall be $40.00 per month.
3. Full-time public safety employees to include the Building Inspector/Fire Chief, and all full-time police staff, may opt to have a city provided cell phone. Choosing a city provide cell phone will result in the termination of the cell phone stipend provided to other employees. City phones will be used for work functions and personal use should be limited.
4. In extenuating circumstances, the City Administrator shall have the ability to determine if employees outside of public safety employees are eligible for city provided phones. Having a city provide cell phone will result in the termination of the cell phone stipend provided to the employee.
This policy will continue in effect until modified by act of the Hillsboro City Council. The governing body of the City of Hillsboro agreed by motion at the regular meeting on September 3, 2024, to approve the policy statement.
