Call back time is when the officer on duty calls another officer for assistance and that officer responds to the call back by returning to duty.
If a police officer is called back to work for unscheduled duty, the officer shall be compensated at the regular hourly rate of pay for the actual time worked or one (1) hour. whichever is greater. A second call back to duty within the initial one hour guarantee period does not commence a second one hour compensation guarantee. Time spent testifying in court or waiting to testify in court is also considered call back time.
All call back time will be reviewed by the Chief of Police and/or Mayor. and will require a written report as to why the back-up officer was called out. Certain situations require a backup officer such as: alarms, domestic disturbances. road blocks or others as deemed necessary by the Chief of Police. If an officer is called back for a reason other than those specified above, the officer requesting assistance may be subject to disciplinary action.
This policy does not in any way imply that a police officer is required to stay at home and wait for call back time.
